What are the things I should consider when buying cables?

Is the Scart cable construction quality important? After all it is not a High Definition connection.
Yes it is! Scart cables are susceptible to electromagnetic interferences and must be protected.
Scart is not a simple cable. It is a complex interconnecting device. It includes 21 wires that transfer audio and video signals, grouped and shielded in such a way as to take out any crosstalk from one wire to the other. So the audio is crystla clear and the video sharp, vivid and without any interference or noise. Again the construction plays a major role in the quality of the audio and video you will get. The shielding, insulation, wire geometry and of course the quality of the connector (sturdy, gold-plated) will define how your expensive equipment will perform.

Why are cable ferrites important?
They offer an extra layer of protection from EMI and RFI.
Yes they are. It is an extra measure of EMI & RFI shielding, as braid and foil are. Basically a ferrite bead has the property of eliminating the broadcast signals. Essentially, it "chokes" the RFI transmission at that point on the cable - this is why you find the beads at the ends of the cables. Instead of traveling down the cable and transmitting, the RFI signals turn into heat in the bead.

What does EMI and RFI mean?
Electromagnetic Interference and Radiofrequency Interference
EMI stands for ElectroMagnetic Interference and RFI for RadioFrequency Interference. EMI and RFI describe a disturbance that affects an electrical circuit due to either electromagnetic conduction or electromagnetic radiation emitted from an external source. The disturbance may interrupt, obstruct, or otherwise degrade or limit the effective performance of the circuit. Cell phones, FM radio, TV, microwave ovens, wireless routers and even phenomena related to the solar activity are all sources of unwanted Interferences. Special care should be given in the design of cables and all other devices that are directly susceptible to EMI & RFI, otherwise the performance of electronic devices is highly degraded.

What about the different HDMI's found in the market? Aren't they all the same?
